Self-Publishing: Two great articles
“The only end of writing is to enable the readers better to enjoy life, or better to endure it.” (Review of a Free Enquiry, 1757)
One of my twitter pals, S. Luke Abaffy, turned me on to this wonderful article on Self-Publishing, click here.
And another twitter pal, Christine Nolfi, posted this one: How to Publish and Profit.
“No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money.”

Mark, many thanks for linking to my article, How to Publish and Profit.
Happy writing!
My pleasure. There are some great ideas and attitudes in your article. I have been thinking about this issue for a while now. All of my friends from high tech have been asking me why I am still going the traditional route, sending queries off to publishers and agents, when, they think I should be self-publishing. Click here to read some of my thoughts.
I have read and commented on Kristine Kathryn Rusch’s ideas about self publishing and Joe Konrath’s ideas, too. But there is more to self-publishing than just writing a book.
One of our students here has written four books and receives checks up to $0.61/year. (That’s American money, by the way.) Wow! So, having writing talent is not enough. Being smart is not enough.
For established authors, such as Kris and Joe, it’s a wonderful business strategy. But if you are just starting out and don’t have a bag of fairy dust, it’s an up hill climb. Of course, going the tried and true publishing route is also an up hill climb. They’re also good at marketing and business. That’s a heady combination.
FourSquare Login Test. Yay.
And there’s no ‘just’ to writing a book.
